Thin layer chromatography (TLC) + surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS): In our wet chemistry lab we make diatomite TLC and then test them with our portable Raman spectrometer. This spectrometer weighs less than 10 lbs and is capable of being powered by battery making this spectrometer perfect for on-site detection. Our aim is to create a optical sensor capable of on-site detection of contaminants in food.
